Digital Talanoa : 2.0 Business Ideas

My column about blogs (online journals) a few weeks ago generated some great email from a handful of Fiji-based bloggers. All of them relayed stories about their own self-publishing experiences online. From making large numbers of new friends to dealing with negative comments on their blogs, many of their experiences were the same. Everyone seemed to love the freedom to communicate in this new way and believe that Fiji’s continuing move towards easier, cheaper and faster Internet access is partly responsible. For some, it is developing an entirely new skill and talent that they previously never knew they had. (Incidentally, I came across a new blog this week which should be welcome to those of us in Suva struggling to find the best places for lunch. http://lunchinsuva.blogspot.com offers reviews, pictures and other information about eateries around us. If you live in Suva and if you eat, you’ll find it an invaluable resource.)

Wow..media freedom.

In an impressive display of media impartiality, FijiTV seems to have called on the country to stay home from work on the 1st of May! They even designed some web banners for display on popular blogs.

That is...unless I'm misunderstanding this news report.

Digital Talanoa : Blog Culture Gains Ground

I’m a fan of “freedom of speech”.

Although being raised in the U.S. has no doubt contributed to the opinion that everyone should have the aforementioned right, I’ve travelled to enough places to know that it’s not always a reality. Places like Texas, for example.
