So it was 6.30 this Saturday morning when I ventured out to my local Hot Bread Kitchen to buy hot scones, cheese buns and newspapers.
I followed an odd-looking lady with wild hair into the shop. I write "odd" because there was something off about her. She seemed visibly disturbed and angry and she kind of pushed herself into line. Then I heard her bark some order to the woman behind the counter who started filling bags with bread. After a minute of watching the employee fill up bags, she apparently changed her mind and ordered 24 loaves of white bread.
That's a big order but I assumed she was just purchasing for her entire village.
The employee un-bagged the first order and went to fill the 24-loaf order. I took a closer look at this woman. She really looked downright mean. She had a younger Fijian boy with her who stood alongside silently. I thought she didn't look like someone who would be responsible enough to get bread for everyone. She just reeked negativity so I backed away a bit. I didn't like her and didn't like the way she was speaking to people around her.
The employee came back with the first plastic bag filled with 12 loaves and then went back to fill another. The strange lady pushed the bag into the hands of the boy and stepped outside in what appeared to be a wait for the rest of her order. At that point, someone else was helping me so I looked away but when the employee came back with the second big bag, I turned around to see the weird woman hop into a taxi with the boy and the 12 loaves of bread and drive away.
The employee stood there stunned and yelped something out but quickly realised it was over.
Was a crappy thing to see first thing on a Saturday. That woman had so little disrespect for anyone else around her and it was evident immediately when I first saw her too.
In the rather unlikely event she also steals computers and is reading this blog, take responsibility for yourself. Look at the lessons you're teaching that child and the impact your actions have on society.
There is a police post immediately next to this Hot Bread Kitchen as well but it all happened so quickly. I wish I had the foresight to snap a picture but I did not. As best as I can describe her, she looked like Don King but without the smile and mustache. If you see a woman who meets this description, don't give her anything.
